Video Transcript
In this video, we’ll walk you through the installation of your full fibre broadband, so you feel prepared and know what to expect.
Your installation is scheduled as an all-day appointment, usually between 8:30am and 5pm. You can request that the engineer calls you around 20 minutes ahead of their arrival if this is helpful. Someone over the age of 18 must be at the property to provide access and make decisions, and the visit usually takes no longer than a couple of hours. The engineer will bring everything needed for the installation, so nothing will arrive ahead in the post. They will also fully configure your connection and set up any additional services during the visit, ensuring everything is up and running before they leave.
If you have pets, we kindly ask that you keep them in a secure room or area of the property while the engineer carries out their work. This helps ensure their safety, as the engineer will need to move in and out of the property and doors may be left open.
When the engineer arrives, they’ll start by running the fibre cable to your property. This may be overhead from a nearby telegraph pole, or underground to an existing point on the property. A small grey box will then be installed to receive the fibre. The cable is then routed neatly along the external wall from this box to where the router will be placed inside. The engineer will discuss suitable router placement options with you before securing the external cabling. If you have ordered telephone services with your fibre broadband, your handset will need to be plugged directly into your router. It’s worth keeping this in mind when deciding where you’d like this to be installed.
A small hole will be drilled from the inside of the property outwards to protect internal decoration, and a wall-mounted optical network terminal, known as the ONT, will be fitted. The ONT connects the fibre cable from outside directly to your router, so this needs to be fitted to an external wall, close to where the cable enters the property. Your router will then be plugged into the ONT, so we require access to two power sockets.
And that’s it! The engineer will test your connection, make sure everything is working as it should and answer any questions you may have before they leave.
Thank you for choosing InternetTY as your hyperfast broadband provider, we hope you enjoy your new full fibre connection! If you require any further information about your installation please do not hesitate to get in touch!
